Love this deep dive Rich! Appreciate you breaking it down for me like that. I usually think that way with compiling stories in the magazine. Keep up the good work!
I have nothing to rigid to give me some freedom and not feel like I'm fenced in. Personally, I love a good wide, so that will most certainly be at the front for me. I do tend to let the story push that structure, as long as I get the shots basis covered. Personal style will also drive the narrative. I tend to work on a 70% plan, 30% freedom, so I can still move about creatively. If you are known for more impactful textures in your style, then placing the wide as the last image might be better suited.
Really interesting thanks for sharing. Improving my storytelling is my number one priority this year so it’s interesting to see how others think about it
Thank you, this is really useful information. I'm not a professional, far from it, but I love to pursue photography. One of the things I want to improve on is storytelling though my images. The workflow you have shared is so helpful. Thanks!
This is insane, Rich. The amount of knowledge you have and have shared here is absolutely next level creative professionalism. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and incredible storytelling
That’s a killer question. I think if you dove into some more detail around what it means to build narrative for a shoot to help drive story for characters and place that could be really cool. And it is something that I’d be so curious to learn from your perspective. You dig into it a bit here in this post, but also wonder if there’s some more depth there?

Thanks man 👊🏼
Superb advice, do you have a preferred order for the storyblocks?

You’re welcome Nick! Appreciate your comment 🙏🏼 it took some time to put together.
I am sure it did! And the time you put in it is super apparent
Is there any other topics you’d like covered? I’ll see what else I can drag up.

Nice! This might play into the next idea I had around my pre-production, and an issue on from that which I thought about sharing my pitch process.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏼 great to know what helps.
I appreciate the advice here man -- great work!
